Last Day...What's next

Now what? I think for me as a writer my next step is to go ahead and do what I've always wanted- write a book. Specifically I've always wanted to write children books. I really want to publish humorous articles about my childhood and the clash of culture between East and West (My Middle-Eastern background and living in an American country). I don't know what's stopping me. I think I just might go ahead and do it. As far as what my writing future looks like, I think it looks hopeful. I love to write and voice out my thoughts. This course taught me a lot about the different types of writings I can do and bring abstract ideas into literal meaning. I enjoyed it very much:)

Post Secret

I loveeeee Post Secret. I have all of Frank's books and every now and then I like to take the books out and read the books again and again for hours. Every time I read other people's secrets I get a new perception on what is going on in their lives. I wonder who they are? What are they doing, now? How are they handling their secret in life. I guess it's human nature, we like to know other people's secrets.

Killing Yourself To Live

Killing Yourself To Live by Chuck Klosterman

Hmmmm well this book isn't going get onto my top favorite books of all times, but it sure made me laugh a little. I think that this book was of a different spectrum than I am in. I didn't know ANY of the music mentioned and I definitely felt that I missed out on the actual aura of the book. The first chapter I got tired of going onto YouTube to look up and and listen to the songs mentioned (it got veryyyyyyyyyy tiring).

I don't want to bash the book because It didn't meet MY expectations but Klosterman's style of writing is fantastic. I can very much relate to his style because it reflected his thought process. I think he spits out what's on his mind and the writing and syntax of his book does just that. He has a GREAT use of voice, which really got me into the novel even if I wasn't interested with what it was about. It was a good change to go from reading books that had a beginning, middle, problem, climax, and a resolution-- to a book that talked about his experience on an article mission.

I don't think I'd recommend this book to anyone that I know unless they were over the age of 30 and if they were REALLLLLLLYYYYYYY into hard core rock music.

I rate this book a 7.9:)

Halloween Monster

Let me just start off by saying that I love Halloween:) It's my favorite holiday out of the year! The weather is just beautiful and the leaves are changing color. My niece and I are dressing up as pirates and we have matching swords. It's going to be pretty darn fun!

On another note...Halloween is the best time to be scared. Its fun to get scared. You go to Haunted Houses, go to Halloweekends at Cedar Point. But the best of all is to tell scary stories. I love scary stories. It's hard for me to get scared but I just love telling them to others. Until this day, the one thing that I cannot do is say "Bloody Mary" three times in a bathroom with the lights of. I just can't. Even though I am a grown adult...I cannot fathom the idea because I still feel like Bloody Mary is going to come out and kill me. Tell me this picture doesn't scare the crap out of you.

Four Freedoms

I have always been inspired by Maya Angelou's writings. Not only are they smooth but to me, as a woman, and a woman of a minority class it speaks to me. It reminds me everyday of just how phenomenal women are and how we should respect ourselves to the T! PHENOMENAL WOMAN by Maya Angelou reminds me of just how beautiful we really are:)She's always on Oprah and you might know some of her other works like "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" and "Still I Rise."

From our last class discussion with my peers, this poem was read to me and had a beat going in my head....While my classmate was reading it I felt like I was in a dark poetry club and all that was missing was soft beating of drums and Maya Angelou reading it with a rhythmical nod. Nod not only from the beat and the sway of the words but nodding in agreement to the words that she spoke. To me she spoke for me and to my heart.

PHENOMENAL WOMAN
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing of my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

How We Didn't Tell Her

http://poems.com/poem.php?date=14234

I read this poem and it really made me think about how sometimes one's happy endings aren't another person's happy ending. It kind of reminded me of when my cousin Tariq passed away, how the entire family was so careful how to tell me the news. It makes someone really think before they act.

There is obviously no way to tell a bad news in a good way but I think my family prepared me by telling me that he was in critical condition and in the hospital. From there I was already mentally prepared for the worst but I still hoped that they all made a mistake and it was someone that looked like Tariq--similar to the poem.

In Sandra Gilbert's poem everyone knew that this young "flesh" was killed in an accident but were afraid to tell the mother. Thankfully they didn't have to because it was a mistake but the young boy that was killed in the accident was someone else's brother, son, and friend. Makes you think twice, doesn't it?

CINDERELLA: The Untold Version

Man, are all men ass holes! I mean come on...I had a great time with this Prince Charming- if you even want to call him that. We danced, we laughed, and he whispered sweet nothings to me all night. I really thought that this was going somewhere. I’m really not that type of girl-- I swear, but my feelings got the best of me and yeah we hooked up (turns away shamelessly). Yup, I'm a tramp. I fell for the first guy that I met on a Saturday night.

I don’t know what happened, but by twelve o’clock things were getting really hot and we ended up at my place because I knew my sisters and step mother were going to be out of town and I had the house all to myself. But what went wrong??? I kept telling him that I usually don’t do this but he said neither did he. Those kisses—I mean those kisses really did shut me up. I mean the feelings and what we wanted to do were both totally mutual but I never thought that a guy like that would do me wrong like this! He’s a Prince for God’s sake…I thought at least he knew how to treat a lady. I mean he's established, lives with his parents for the time being but I'm sure he can manage a kingdom on his own.

He was totally amazing; it was like he was in my mind! He knew what to do, what to grab and how to kiss but not jabbing his tongue down my throat. It wasn’t like a wham bam thank you ma’am. It was more like pure love making. Don’t get me wrong, just because I’m cleaning soot all day and in a house full of ladies doesn’t mean I was in heat or anything (I didn’t need to get laid but it happened)…it’s just that I was falling for him and it all happened so fast.

Anyways I’m in a panic. After that amazing night of pure orgasmic heaven, I woke up and he wasn’t there. He left. He didn’t even bother to leave a letter. At least give me your number or where I can reach you….SERIOUSLY???? The last time this happened to my friend Tinker Bell her boy Peter fell for another tramp named Wendy. But that was in Never Never Land and this is a Fairytale and for once it should happen my way!

It’s been a few weeks now. I kept calling and sending him letters…but still no answer. I don’t know what to do. I just feel so used and abused. Why hasn’t he called me? Is he thinking of me? Was I at least good? Oh fairy God Mother…what shall I do! As long as I don't get knocked up. Oh snap, it's been.... (flips to her calendar and counts the days) a week now. I think I'm late.

Bab Al-Yemen

This picture is called Bab Al-Yemen, which means "The Gate of Yemen." This gateway is what separates old Sana'a from modern Sana'a. I must have taken this picture 50 times. I couldn't get enough of the busy crowds. It was citizens of Sana'a that made the picture look so ancient:)

Jewelry

Yemen is known for its finest silvers. For many centuries Sultans and Princes all over the Middle-East would travel to Yemen to adorn their new brides with the whitest form of all silvers. This is a picture of what is only sold to tourists. Typically, Kings would have their own jewelers travel with them and work with a Yemeni jeweler to begin making the special custom gift for their bride.

Some more pictures of Sana'a

Well I was pretty bummed that the picture I chose while I was in class didn't show up. So I went home and found some pictures that I took myself while I was in Sana'a, Yemen.

This picture is just a candid shot of a walk way in the middle of the market. You get a real sense of what a typical market really looks like in Yemen.

Old Sana'a, Yemen

I found this amazing picture of a candid shot in old Sana'a. This is one of the oldest cities in the world. This city is amazing and I am in complete awe every time I visit this place. Each time is a new experience for myself because I am so captivated by the images that being there in actual time is priceless. Enjoy!

Reinventing Your Favorite Folktale

I chose to reinvent and rewrite a different version of Cinderella with a bit of a kick in Cinderella's point of view...hope you enjoy!
